This person will manage an office of eight employees.
The AASCD is a multijurisdictional political subdivision of the State.
The Districts' responsibilities are to control and contain soil on both urban construction sites and agricultural lands.
Duties include but are not limited to; approving erosion control plans for development as well as soil and water quality plans on farms, managing personnel and budgets, organizing board meetings, attending industry events, and working with various state, federal and local agencies.
Position Duties In addition to the eight District employees, the applicant may need to assign and review the workload of Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), employees working within the AASCD office.
The District Manager will approve erosion control plans for urban development as well as soil and water quality plans on farms, manage budgets, organize board meetings, attend industry events that may be evening or weekend events, maintain an orderly working environment, and work with various state, federal and local agencies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Education:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, agriculture, or a related field.
Knowledge of environmental engineering principles and practices is desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in soil conservation, water quality protection or related agriculture or other natural resource programs.
Preferred Qualifications Please include clear and relevant examples in your resume validating experience in any of the following tasks:
Supervisory experience of a government program.
Experience with program budget management and funding requests.
Experience developing and implementing soil conservation programs.
Experience determining water quality violations.
Ability to read complicated topographic maps and engineering plans.
An understanding of erosion control devices.
Supervisory experience of a variety of employees of various skill levels.
Additional Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A high competency in computer hardware.
An understanding of agricultural standards and practices.
An understanding of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) regulations for soil erosion and sediment control.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications Candidates appointed to positions in this classification will be assigned duties and responsibilities which require the operation of a motor vehicle and are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
